Private Drum & Percussion Lessons FAQ

“Rhythm and harmony enter most powerfully into the inner most part of the soul and lay forcible hands upon it, bearing grace with them, so making graceful him who is rightly trained.” ~ Plato

1. Where are lessons given?

Lessons are given in the New Jersey (USA) area.  Lessons are held at my home studio or my student's home.

2. Can the lessons be outdoors?

Yes, if the weather permits.

3. What can you expect from lessons?

You can expect to 1. grow in a variety of rhythmic & musical skills; 2. to be more confident and developed in your drumming abilities; 3. to be more proficient on the drum(s) of your choice; and 4. to develop & increase your rhythmic vocabulary & rhythmic styles.

4. What ages and skill levels are the lessons for?

My students range from 5 years old to adult and their skills range from beginner to advanced.

5. How long is each lesson?

For students who are 9 years old or younger each lesson is typically 30 - 45 minutes.  For students who are 10 years and older each lesson is typically an hour.

6. Are drums provided and is there a cost?

Drum(s) are available and provided for free at the lessons.  Drums are also available for rent or purchase so a student can have fun playing and practicing between lessons.  Ultimately, a student will need a drum of their own to play, practice and get the most out of their lessons, but a student does not need to purchase a drum to start lessons.

7. What is the cost for lessons?

The cost depends on whether I travel to the student or the student travels to me.  Generally, lessons are $55 per hour; $40 per 45 minutes; & $35 for 30 minutes.  If a student travels to me, then I will give a $10 discount on an hour lesson and a $5 discount for half hour & 45 minute lessons. If I travel to a student whose home is more than a 30 minute drive, then there is usually a gas/travel fee.  Any such fee will be discussed before the lessons begin, so that there are no surprise costs.

8. What time of day are lessons given?

The times vary according to the student(s) & my schedule.  Please contact me (Greg) to arrange a time or if you have any questions.
