What is so special about playing gongs?
Why Play Gongs?
Every hand hammered gong is a one-of-a-kind instrument; playing can be a one-of-a-kind experience.
Playing gongs is a great pleasure for various reasons. A gong is a multi-faceted percussion instrument and players often play for one of more of the following reasons.
1. Gongs are a tool to help us develop various skills. Including listening skills, rhythmic skills and the ability to control sound.
2. Gong playing is therapeutic. Gongs can produce "sound baths", which are a unique therapeutic experience by which listeners are bathed in sound.
3. Gong playing adds a distinct and exciting sound to musical groups. Rock bands, percussion ensembles and orchestras all employ gongs.
There are two main gong types (suspended gongs & gong bowl) & dozens of different gongs within those types. Gong playing is part of an ancient, therapeutic - musical history.
