Tips for Registering with PayPal®

Three Stages for Registering with PayPal® 

1. Sign Up

2. Confirm your Email

3. Choose your User Status: Verified or Un-verified

 

Stage 1: Sign Up

A. Choosing Accounts: Personal or Business

Choose "Personal" unless you are using your PayPal account for your business.

B. Sign up form page

After choosing your account you will go to a new page with a form.  The form asks for your contact information, including your email address.  After you fill out and properly answer the questions on the form click the "Sign Up" button once.  Stage 1 is complete.

Tip: Keep all passwords in a place that is safe & easy-to- remember place.

Tip: Choose a Premier account if you plan to receive money.  (A Premier is a business account.  It is a business account registered with the user's name rather than business name.)  

Tip:  If you are not receiving money you do NOT need a Premier or Business account.  

Stage 2. Email Confirmation

A. Open the confirmation email that PayPal will send you (usually within ten minuets of signing up).   Follow the instructions in the email to confirm and 

Stage 3. Choose your User Status: Verified or Un-verified

Tip: If you want to purchase immediately, then sign up initially as un-verified.

Tip: Un-verified has a $2000 lifetime spending limit so at some point, you may need to change to a verified status, which has no spending limit.

What is verified and un-verified?

Verified means you have registered your bank account with PayPal & thus, confirmed, or verified, two small deposits which PayPal deposited into your bank account.

Un-verified means you have registered one of your credit cards with PayPal.

Advantages & Disadvantage of Verified & Un-verified Status

Advantage of Un-verified: You can purchase immediately. 

Disadvantage of Un-verified: You have a $2000 life time spending limit. 

Advantage of Verified: No spending limit.

Disadvantage of Verified:  You cannot purchase immediately.

Upon choosing your status Stage 3 is complete.
