Making sounds: There are various techniques for getting meditation bowls to sing. Two of the most common are Pressing and moving the mallet around the outside of the rim. When a certain pressure and friction of the mallet against the rim is achieved, then a continuous singing sound with dynamic overtones is produced. Tapping the rim (inside and outside of rim); and taping the bottom half of the bowl (inside and outside) are two other effective ways to bring out the tones and create beautiful and meditative patterns.
