A Musician's Guild To Understanding and Improvising with Rhythm by Alan Dworsky and Betsy Sansby
Sorry, A Rhythmic Vocabulary is no longer available as a book/cd. It is available as a download at DancingHands.com. Also, other award winning books from these outstanding authors include Conga Drumming & How to Play Djembe.
Book Includes: The book comes with a "Timelines" CD, which has the 4/4 Clave and 6/8 Cowbell rhythms. Further, these two rhythms are played at different tempos on the CD. It's an excellent resource for to help players learn or grow in the Clave and Cowbell rhythms; you can play the rhythm with the CD, you can play other rhythms with the CD and you can just listen to the rhthyms on the CD.
A Rhythmic Vocabulary CD: The authors recorded all the rhythms in the book on the CD. It's an outstanding tool for learning rhythms, playing along with rhythms and for listening.
Authors' Description of Book:
This 208-page book and CD is the first systematic, comprehensive approach to
learning about rhythm. It's for any drummer or other musician playing any style
of music. It organizes and analyzes hundreds of African and Afro-Cuban patterns
to give you a deeper understanding of rhythmic structure. It also teaches
rhythmic concepts and variation techniques you can use to create patterns of
your own. Learn to groove and solo with greater rhythmic freedom and express
yourself with a richer rhythmic vocabulary.
