Have you ever considered that our bodies are created for drumming? Our heart and pulse carries a beat, our breath controls the tempo, our arms and hands and legs are sticks. And, to top if off, our inner ear is a drum! Indeed, we are drummers - born to drum!
It's is no surprise that people have benefited from drumming since the beginning. The first drums made by man were of course made from nature. Who could date the first time a person played a log; or used sticks to play a rock? Drumming is from the beginning yet today drums are made from natural and synthetic materials. As the originals drums, wood is used in most every type of drum ever made. During the Ceramic Age and again in the metal Ages drums certainly took on new forms. Cymbals and Gongs were invented but for thousands of years the earth has provided all the material. Today, earthly materials as well as synthetic such as figerglass help to make even more powerful, durable and outstanding drums. We can say, from very simple beginnings drums have developed in very sophisticated ways, yet it's fundamental simplicity and essence remains the same.
Drums and our voice are probably the two most widely used instruments
thoughout world history. Drums are probably used in more musical
styles than on other isntrument. We may attribute this to the
notion that rhythm (and rhythmic variation) is the musical

Drumming is an outstanding means to increase health and achieve full mental and physical potential. In regards to health benefits, drumming effects our entire physiology in a universal manner. Drumming is much as a martial art, the body takes pounding, is trained to move efficiently and does patterns of movement over and over. In addition, drumming can be one of the highest forms of meditation, just as T'ai Chi or other internal martial arts. As in some many athletics drumming requires development, strength and excellent endurance in our whole body. Drumming is effective for nearly every population. It can be a special form of training for athletes; an educational tool for all ages and grades; an uplifting and strengthening activity for most seniors; a perfect experience for musicians.
Drumming has the power to transform our mind, body and soul in remarkably positive ways. Therefore, the instructions are to drum joyously and be joyous! Drum beautifully and be beautiful; drum thoughtfully and from your heart
