Another name for the glockenspiel is orchestra bells. Glockenspiel is a German word and means "to play the bells". The glockenspiel is made of steel bars; and is played with mallets. The mallets usually have spherical or round heads. The heads are commonly rubber or wrapped in yarn or cord. The mallet handles are typically wood or plastic.
The timbre of the glockenspiel is glass-like. It is a tuned percussion instrument that produces very beautiful tones. It's beautiful tones & perfect pitches allow players to produce beautiful melodies as well as exciting rhythms.
