What is art?

Art is a gift to mankind. Every art combines observation and "creation" (unique synthesis/arrangement/composition of already existing elements). Drumming is no exception. Quality drumming increases energy flow, which strengthens mind, body & spirit. Percussive is a unique and special form of art that combines the elements, rhythm, harmony and melody. These elements allow drummers to express & relate the deepest emotions & ideas.

Three Rules About "Art" & "Rules"

3. Boundaries from positive rules yield freedom & other positive qualities.

What are drums? Drums are the Heartbeat:

The drum is the musical instrument that most captures the essence of the human heartbeat. Interesting, each family of music - percussion, wind, strings - have special powers that stimulate and simulate functions of our bodies. The drum is most akin to the heart because of it's obvious beating, vibrating, pumping action. Just as the heart pumps blood through the body, a drum pumps sound through the air. Like an excited heart, a beating drum vibrates many times per minute and establishes a mood for one's body and environment.

Drums vary greatly and are part of a larger family of instruments called percussion. All percussion is akin to the heartbeat because percussion instruments are used to make rhythm. The heart, along with the breath, keep the rhythm of the body just as the percussion instruments keep the rhythm of the music!
