Review: "I mounted a white steer skin on an old Toca Bamboo series 10" quinto and I can't believe how good it sounds. I purchased thinner steer skins from Manito percussion but it wasn't the sound I was looking for. The sound of the skin I got from Artdrum sounds like the drums I played as a young boy in Brooklyn. The quality of that skin is top notch!" ~E. Delgado, FL, USA, 2016
Skin Material: Steer, white (bleached)
Medium Skin Thickness: approximately between 1.75 - 2.2 mm (medium skins have a higher lower tonal range than thick skins)
Thick Skin Thickness: approximately between 2.2 - 3 mm (thick skins have a lower tonal range than medium skins)
Soaking Time for Medium Skins: about 6 - 8 hours
Soaking Time for Thick Skins: about 8 - 10 hours
Our medium white steers are commonly used on congas, batas, tamboras and Taiko drums. They are great for any drum for which you want a drier sound and need a thickness of about 1.75 - 2.2 mm. Our thick white steer are congas, tamboras and Taiko drums.
Sound Quality (Timbre): Our white steer produce a drier and woodier timbre than Natural steer skins (Natural steer produces a brighter timbre than white).
Texture: Our white steer skins have a beautifully smooth texture. Our white steer skins are consistently the smoothest among all our steer and cow skins. The smooth yet Natural texture makes playing easier on the hands & feels great.
Sound Range:
Medium skins produce a higher tonal range than thick skins; thick skins produce a deeper bass & lower tonal range than medium.Skin-Head Size Chart
