Drum Circles & Community Music Classes

"Music raises in the mind of the hearer great conceptions: it strengthens and advances praise into rapture."  ~Joseph Addison

drum lessons; drummers; music lessons

Drum circles are available for organizations, schools, camps, businesses, senior centers, friends and most anywhere a creative activity is welcomed.

Instruments are provided and participants will experience a variety of quality drums and percussion.  A given drum circle will have all, or some combination, of the following instruments: ashikos; bodhrans; bongos; congas; djembes; doumbeks; ocean drums; talking drums; chimes; steel pans; xylophones; sound effects and hand-held percussion.

Participants will play authentic African, Latin and swing rhythms.  Plus, they will use these rhythms to play polyrhythmic music.  Polyrhythmic music allows players to experience and share a rich and fun creative process.

Participants will also play improvised music.  There are two primary ways improvising is done in my drum circles: 1. Playing standard variations of rhythms and 2. Spontaneously inventing patterns, rhythms and/or variations.  (Creating variations on melodies and spontaneously inventing melodies are other fun ways to improvise, but not as common in drum circles.)   Every improvised jam is an original outpouring of creativity, so improvising allows players to experience a unique and uplifting creative process.
